The vast majority of disabled children in the UK live at home with their families and are well looked after. The main reason for leaving the family home is that the parents feel they can no longer care for their child. For other children, concerns about neglectful care and abuse prompt alternative arrangements. Professionals working in the field of adoption and fostering seek to provide these children with the support and care necessary for them to achieve their potential and develop into healthy and resilient individuals. The 2010 BAAF Health Group Conference brought together speakers from health and social care backgrounds to explore this important area of practice. Disability and disablism
